Coding & Game Design
ArcadeCAMP Scratch: (Ages 8-11)
Cost: $250/5-day camp. This is the camp to take for those that want their creativity to run wild using Scratch! Campers will be introduced to game development and programming, learn about programming as a career option and what goes into making a great game. They’ll create games based on classics such as Whac-a-Mole, Pong, Frogger, Snake or Tetris, and use what they learn to create their own computer games! Participation in Intro to Programming is recommended but not required to register for this camp.
Intro to Programming: (Ages 7-10)
Cost: $250/5-day camp :: $215/4-day camp. Campers will be using a software program from MIT called Scratch. The program was designed for children and teaches them the basics of programming as they create animated stories, video games, and interactive artwork. Using colorful programming blocks, campers drag and “snap” together the blocks to make a character (Sprite) walk, speak, play music, or interact with other sprites. Since computer programming is considered the new literacy, young people now have an opportunity to put together multimedia programs without any previous programming knowledge. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically.
Minecraft 3D Adventures: (Ages 6-8)
Cost: $250/5-day camp :: $215/4-day camp. No experience needed! Think Minecraft is just a video game? Think again. Create, explore, and put your problem-solving skills to the test. Let’s pretend you’re alone in a mysterious new world, full of hidden dangers. You have only minutes to find food and shelter before darkness falls and the monsters come looking for you. What do you do? What we teach you might just save your life! Learn how to find resources; make a shelter; craft tools, armor, and weapons, and protect yourself from monsters. Campers also create their own adventure map as design, production, and test playing guide them. Campers learn how to work as a team as they take on the real-world jobs of programmer, game designer, artist, and architect. There are two modes of the game. The scenario above describes the survival mode. There is also a creative mode where there are no monsters and you will be able to fly around and have unlimited resources to build amazing creations and buildings. What kind of adventure you choose will be up to you! Come and learn the basics, as well as advanced techniques and new strategies for this great game! Minecraft 3D Supreme: (Ages 8-12)
Cost: $250/5-day camp :: $215/4-day camp. This camp is for experienced campers who have been playing Minecraft. Minecraft™ has taken the world by storm with its block-building, digital game design that allows players to build, explore, create, collaborate, and even survive. With no set rules, you can build anything you can possibly imagine. During this 5-day adventure, campers will learn different modes of playing. They will escape monsters, build amazing structures, create maps, mine the world under their feet, climb the tallest mountains, and manipulate the vast world around them. Campers take on the real-world jobs of game designer, artist, and architect. All campers ARE REQUIRED to have a Minecraft™ account for this camp. Minecraft Modding: (Ages 8-14)
Cost: $250/5-day camp :: $215/4-day camp. (NOT for Minecraft beginners, must be experienced with Minecraft.) Did you know that Minecraft™ was built using Java™ code? In this camp, campers will build their own Minecraft servers in Java! If your camper aspires to be the greatest Minecraft warrior of all time, this camp is for them. Campers will learn valuable real world programming skills while building a variety of ‘games within the game’ using a specially designed code editor that supports both drag-and-drop and text based programming in a single environment. This camp is a brilliant way for kids to explore their creativity through real computing and have a blast sharing their mods with their friends in and out of camp! Even better, campers can continue to create new mods on their own and share them with friends after camp ends! All campers ARE REQUIRED to have a Minecraft™ account for this camp. Programming with Dash & Dot: (Ages 6-9)
Cost: $250/5-day camp Meet “Dash and Dot” and experience a whole different way of programming robots. Using games with animation and stories, kids learn to program these bots with light, sound, sensors, and movement, understand the basics of coding, and are introduced to the world of computer science fundamentals. Programming is thought to be the next language that all campers need to learn and we make it fun!
* NEW *Robot Explorer: Ozobots (Ages 7-10)
Cost: $250/5-day camp :: $215/4-day camp. Ozobots are small, smart and programmable robots that empower gamers and learners to code, play, and connect the physical and digital worlds Using Ozobot robots and Blockly visual drag and drop programming, campers will explore their creativity while learning key programming and engineering concepts. They will design challenges, solve mazes and even and may even recreate famous movie scenes, all with the Ozobot robots! Campers will learn basic programming, common robotics concepts, RGB sensors and basic physics, teamwork skills and problem solving and mathematical skills.
Mini-Chef: (Ages 6-8)
Cost: $215/4-day camp plus $25 Lab Fee. This camp is for young kids who love to help in the kitchen. Our Mini-chefs will try different foods, eat what they prepare, and learn some basics of cooking! With a focus on yummy, nutritious foods that are easy to create, campers will prepare healthy snacks and entrees, prep foods, create finger-foods, bake, blend smoothies, and make simple desserts. We will explore the science behind cooking, learn safety skills, mix, measure, shake, follow a recipe, and enjoy the taste of our own creations! At the end of class, campers will take home their recipes for future creating!
Robotics & Engineering
CityCAMP WeDo: (Ages 7-9)
Cost: $215/4-day camp. Entry-level robotics and programming. CityCAMP was designed to enable our young engineers of the future to learn about new technologies and robots that could improve life in a modern city. Using LEGO Education WeDo components and visual drag and drop programming software, campers build and program unique creations such as forklifts, mine railways and even a bathyscaphe (a free-diving, self-propelled, deep-sea submersible used for underwater exploration)! Counselors guide and encourage exploration and trial and error field-testing. Instead of simply “snapping bricks together,” campers are encouraged to think critically about how their robot design can be modified and improved, allowing them to practice new concepts and use creativity to explore solutions.
Future Robot Creator: (Ages 6-8)
Cost: $250/5-day camp. Entry-level robotics and programming. Campers get a head start on simple robotics using LEGO® Education WeDo™ components and easy to use software. Our young creators will build models, attach sensors and motors, and configure behaviors using a simple programming tool. Counselors guide and encourage exploration and trial and error field-testing. Instead of simply “snapping bricks together,” campers are encouraged to think critically about how their robot design can be changed and to understand more complicated engineering techniques such as gear use, pulleys, and inclined planes. Robot models include a variety of animals, soccer players, amazing mechanisms, and adventure stories. When ready, campers move to advanced building and programming projects that include: a Racecar, Ferris wheel, and Carousel. As the week draws to a close, campers may even utilize the skills they have learned to build an X-wing fighter or Marine helicopter. Parents are invited to join us on Friday’s Family Day to view their child’s creations.
Lego Imagineer: (Ages 7-9)
Cost: $250/5-day camp. What makes Imagineering camp fun? Building, designing, programming, inventing and imagining what could be! Using LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0™ components, campers kick up their engineering skills to the next level as they apply engineering concepts and programming skills learned in Future Robot Creator to create solutions to real-world concerns. After a brief introduction to sensors, new software and programming tools via Milo the Science Robot, your young Imagineer will build robots to clean oceans, improve recycling, prevent flooding, perform rescue operations, explore space and more. They will investigate, design, build and modify prototypes, program and test them and collaborate with other campers throughout the week. There is no limit to the innovative ideas and solutions that kids can generate…design thinking at its finest! Join us on Parent Day to discover what campers have created! It is recommended, but not required for campers to attend Future Robot Creator prior to participating in this camp.
SafariCAMP WeDo: (Ages 6-8)
Cost: $215/4-day camp. Robotics aren’t confined to the city, join us “outdoors” with SafariCAMP WeDo! Projects in this camp focus on the many creations of the most creative engineer in our history – Mother Nature. Campers build, program and learn tons of cool facts about a variety of animals and what they have in common with robots. Entry-level robotics and programming. Campers use LEGO Education WeDo components with motors and sensors and easy to use software to create their own robotic jungle.
* NEWLY REVISED *Space Engineer: (Ages 7-9)
Cost: $250/5-day camp. Using LEGO® bricks, campers will design and build structures and space vehicles for living on far away planets. Campers will utilize a variety of LEGO® bricks including motors, gears, lights, and sensors. Space Engineer includes instruction on the Earth, Moon, stars, and planets as well as the scientific topics of force, friction, simple machines, and gravity. Projects include: a rotating satellite, space buggy, a stunning spaceship, a droid and a host of other exciting projects. Campers will build and launch two Estes Rockets as they learn about the physics of Space Travel. Parents are invited to join us on Friday’s Family Day to view their camper’s creations. This is a camp your child won’t want to miss!
Young Robot Builder: (Ages 6-8)
Cost: $250/5-day camp :: $215/4-day camp, plus $45 Lab Fee. This camp is an introduction into the world of robotics. Campers will be introduced to six simple machines and how they are incorporated into more complex machines. Campers will learn about circuits and power sources as they build our “Mars-like” RC Rover. The radio-controlled RC Rover is capable of performing 23 experiments and activities. Campers will also have fun constructing our Super Solar Recycler Robots which include a Walking Robot, Bottle Yacht, Street Roller, Flying Bird, Drummer and CD-Racer! This camp is packed with engineering concepts, fun and excitement! Campers will be able to take home the robots they build for ours of fun after the camp week has finished!
Can You Dig It? (Ages 6-8)
Cost: $250/5-day camp. Have you ever dreamed of discovering a dinosaur bone or fossils in rock? Or perhaps you’d like to be the one to unearth a human artifact of a lost civilization. If so, you would make a good paleontologist or archaeologist. Come dig in the dirt with us and learn the difference! Go on our archaeological dig, crack open a Geode, find dinosaur bones and fossils, pan for gems & minerals, make sand painted medallions, learn about mummies and Egyptian pyramids, sort and classify arrowheads, shells, and animal tracks. Lots to take home and lots to talk about as you learn the secrets that our earth holds.
Experience the Cosmos (Ages 7-10)
Cost: $250/5-day camp :: $215/4-day camp.Do you have a young rocket scientist in your family? Join us as we race across the Milky Way with twenty hands-on projects and a virtual planetarium game to explore the universe. Experiment with screaming balloon rockets, build a sun dial, construct a telescope and launch an airburst rocket! Using computer simulation, discover how planets look, how solar systems are balanced and easily disturbed, try out different planet sizes and examine the effects of gravity. What happens if you make two galaxies collide or if your asteroid crashes into Earth? Model our solar system and create a glow in the dark Saturn, use solar glasses and design a UV bracelet! Campers learn about astronomy: stars, planets, galaxies, and about astrophysics: how all these heavenly bodies work. Combining technology and fun activities, your child will be talking about this camp for a long time!
* NEW *Extreme Phenomena (Ages 8-11)
Cost: $250/5-day camp. Join us in our quest as we track down the wild natural phenomena that occurs in our world: avalanches, earthquakes, torrential rains, volcanos and tsunamis! Discover how avalanche engineering in Peru and earthquake engineering in Haiti help solve potential disasters through hands-on engineering design challenges based on real events. Create a model mountain and avalanche protection system, construct a working seismograph and earthquake proof structures, build and erupt a model volcano, design a tornado, test wind force, motion, and pressure, and lots more. In this camp you will learn about these remarkable events, how they happen, and the science and engineering that helps prevent disasters.
Future Medical Specialist (Ages 6-8)
Cost: $215/4-day camp. Is your Future Physician ready to “specialize” in medical fields like Neurology, Gastroenterology, Immunology or Orthopedics? Future Specialist brings more great projects, as young campers delve further into their amazing body systems. They’ll peel back the layers and discover how their complex organs work: learn about disease, how our body fights back, the role of mucus; and digestion, from spit to….. well, you get the idea. They’ll uncover how the brain works through their own personal “webcam”, investigate the impact of food, exercise and sleep; and discover how bones and muscles are like cookies and pancakes. Campers will perform hands-on experiments as they learn about body temperature and fevers, take blood pressures, bandage “wounds”, and create herbal medicines. They will use a microscope, test for germs, map their organs, build a set of teeth, brain and virus models, AND take home their own MD kit. Certificate of Mini-MD given at end of camp! Future Physician is NOT required to take Future Specialist.
Future Physician: (Ages 6-8)
Cost: $215/4-day camp. Make NO bones about it; this camp is for the aspiring “Future Physician”. If your child enjoys checking out the cool gadgets and models in the Pediatrician’s office, sign them up! Campers learn that their bodies are miles of blood vessels, hundreds of muscles, many thousands of hairs, a furnace, a filter, AND a fancy computer! They perform hands-on experiments as they learn about brains, taste buds, blood, muscles and bones, check heart rates and listen to their lungs with their very own stethoscope. Campers will extract DNA and learn about genetics, test for germs, and build a variety of creative models to take home. Your Young Physician will really have a pulse on the human body with this camp!
Young Marine Biologist: (Ages 6-9)
Cost: $250/5-day camp. When you picture a marine biologist, what comes to mind? Do you think about studying manatees, octopus, turtles, plants, and algae, training dolphins and whales, or the habitats and conservation of marine life and the health of the ocean? Marine biologists work in many places: in or on the ocean, salt water marshes, the beach, on a submersible vessel, or in a laboratory examining tiny creatures under a microscope. Dive into our hands-on ocean adventure as we explore these many facets of marine biology! Learn about sea mammals and the cleverness of an octopus, race a squid, make your own “fish print”, examine tiny life under the microscope, explore why penguins wear those little tuxedos! Learn about ocean zones, waves, tides, currents, oil spills, the glowing animals of the deep ocean, how to preserve habitats and how humans harness the power of the ocean.
Young Scientist: (Ages 6-8)
Cost: $250/5-day camp. Does your child enjoy doing hands-on experiments and learning how things work? Then Young Scientist is for you! Designed to meet the needs of children ages 6-8, this camp covers a broad range of fun and exciting science topics such as: Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Lab Process Skills. Sample Projects include a Grow–Beast Experiment, Wacky Window Paint, Super Bouncing Balls, Cosmic Rocket, Wurmz and Dirt, Diving Submarines and more! All activities meet or exceed the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Fun and excitement is fostered by great lessons and active involvement.
